About the stone
Shells in the stone
The lighter patches up to five centimetres across on a face of Plano are sections through rudist shells, the bivalves that built reefs along this coast when it was shallow sea. The stone is 98.27 % calcite, so it has no softer veins to wear at a different rate from the rest of the face.

About the stone
Why Dolit goes on the promenade
Dolit takes up a fifth of a per cent of water, Plano a whole per cent, and under Böhme they wear at 17.1 against 21.8 cm³ per 50 cm². On a facade the difference is small. On paving that is walked, washed, salted and frozen it decides how long the stone lasts: less water in the stone means less ice to split it.
