About Sprega
We have been sawing and finishing Dalmatian limestone since 2002. The blocks come from three quarries, Adriakamen and Plano Lithos at Plano and Dalmalit above Omiš, and we saw them in our own plant at Plano near Trogir. We work two stones, Plano and Dolit, and ship them as blocks, slabs or finished pieces cut to your drawings.
From the bench to the slab, no middleman
Stone usually passes through three companies on its way to site: one quarries it, one saws it, one sells it. Our blocks go from the bench straight onto our own gang saw. So we know which block and which bench every slab we ship came from, and when you need more stone for the same terrace two years later, we cut it from the same face.
Deposit
Adriakamen and Plano Lithos at Plano near Trogir, Dolačka ljut above Omiš. We cut the blocks out with diamond wire. From the Plano quarries to the plant is under a kilometre; from Dolačka ljut, about fifty.
Sawing
A gang saw or a single-blade saw cuts the block into slabs, the calibrator brings them to an even thickness, bridge saws and an edge polisher cut them to size, and the profiling machine shapes the edges.
Finishing
We hone, polish, brush, sandblast and bush-hammer, and combine the processes. That is how one stone comes in nine finishes.
Delivery
Blocks, slabs or finished pieces cut to the drawing, each numbered by position so the site knows where it goes.
The forms the stone leaves in
Merchants and stone shops usually take blocks and gang-sawn slabs and cut them themselves. Contractors take finished pieces cut to the drawing and numbered by position, so nothing has to be cut on site. Stone is non-combustible, class A1 without testing under Commission Decision 96/603/EC.
Blocks
Stone as it comes off the bench, cut out with diamond wire and squared up. We also sell them unsawn, by the cubic metre.
Gang-sawn slabs
The block reduced to full-size slabs, in the thickness the project asks for. They stay in sawing sequence, so the figure of the stone runs on from slab to slab.
Cut-to-size elements
Facade panels, floors, treads and risers, sills, pool and wall copings, thresholds and profiles, cut to the drawing and marked by position.
Setts and pitched-face stone
Paving for public ground, setts, split stone for dry-stone walling and pitched-face walling blocks, and technical stone for embankments and sea walls.
Who quarries, who processes
Each quarry is run by its own company, and we, Sprega Kamen, run the plant at Plano. Blocks from all three come straight to our gang saw, with no trader in between.
Where we stand
The plant and two of the quarries are at Plano near Trogir; the third is above Omiš. Stone is heavy and haulage is a big part of the price, so being close to the road matters to us: two kilometres to the coast road, twelve to the motorway, twenty-five to Split.

Where it goes
Most of our stone stays on this coast, in promenades, facades and terraces from Zadar to Makarska and on Pag, Čiovo and Dugi otok. We have also supplied it to Montenegro, Austria, the Czech Republic and Germany, and outside Europe to China and Korea. Today our biggest export markets are China, Italy and Turkey.
Trade fairs
Every year we bring slabs to the trade fairs, most often Marmomac in Verona. Come and find us there and see the stone for yourself before you order.

Two stones
Plano is the paler and more even of the two, which is why architects choose it for large facades and floors. Dolit is denser and takes up almost no water, so it goes where people walk all year: promenades, terraces and outdoor steps.
