Adriakamen

Adriakamen sits at Plano, on the karst above the bay of Kaštela. What comes out of it is Plano, a pale limestone of even structure, in blocks that go to a plant a few minutes down the road.

Position is the reason any of this stone leaves the country. Twenty-five kilometres to Split, four to the airport, two to the coastal road, twelve to the motorway.

The bench is opened from the top down and the block is cut free with diamond wire. Nothing is blasted here: the rock is never shaken, so a block carries no cracks of the kind that only surface on the gang saw.

Stone from this field has been through an accredited laboratory: 111 MPa in compression, 0.97 per cent water absorption, and rated resistant after twenty-five freeze–thaw cycles. The full report is downloadable from the Plano page.
