Adriakamen

Adriakamen is at Plano, on the karst above the bay of Kaštela. This is where Plano comes from, a pale limestone of even structure, and the blocks go straight to our plant a few minutes down the road.

Stone is heavy, so for export what counts is how far the quarry is from a good road. From here it is two kilometres to the coastal road, twelve to the motorway, four to the airport and twenty-five to Split.

The benches are worked from the top down and each block is cut free with diamond wire. There is no blasting, so the blocks carry none of the blast cracks that only show up on the gang saw.

Stone from this field has been through an accredited laboratory: 111 MPa in compression, 0.97 per cent water absorption, and rated resistant after twenty-five freeze–thaw cycles. You can download the full report from the Plano page.
